🌱 AOI #34: Too much content

Published about 2 months ago • 1 min read

On contribution, originality, and work you care about

22. MAR. 2024

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the abundance of content available to you?

This might help you.

All right, here's a bit of inspiration for you this week.

1. On contribution

"We don’t learn much about other people by asking them what they do or want to do. Anyone can copy what someone wants to do and how they want to do it; what differentiates them is why they are. How a person’s unique strengths make a distinct contribution is what makes them different." — Zach Mercurio

Questions such as "What do you want to do with your life or career?" or "What's your ideal job?" don't reveal people's intrinsic motivations, they only reveal what people do.

Here are ways to reframe the questions to focus on what people want to do for others.

2. On Perfectionism

I shared three strategies that helped me escape the perfectionism trap.

3. On originality

"What a good artist understands is that nothing comes from nowhere. All creative work builds on what came before. Nothing is completely original." — Austin Kleon

When we see something new for the first time—it feels original to us. But that’s just our perception. It’s all in the eyes of the beholder.

4. On discipline

5. On work you care about

“If you are working on something that you really care about, you don't have to be pushed. The vision pulls you.” — Steve Jobs

That's what it means to be truly inspired. You're automatically self-motivated—you don't need external motivation to keep the fuel going.
